Latin scholar wins Uni Challenge, and she’s a girl!
Super-brainy Latin scholar Gail Trimble has almost single-handedly swept to victory in the BBC’s University Challenge competition, outscoring all her team mates put together to take the title.
However, the lustre was taken of the title somewhat by the fact that it was the University of Manchester that her college, Oxford’s Corpus Christi, had to beat in the final. Expressing some disappointment that the greasy Mancs managed to score an impressive 190 points against her, she cited “too many questions about football and BritPop” as the reasons for Manchester’s impressive score.
Ms Trimble has a huge online following, and she is an unlikely sex symbol, proving that there is nothing so alluring as posh totty. Even Quizmaster Jeremy Paxman was said to have been blown away by her, but there is no suggestion that this influenced the result.
Asked what she hopes to do after graduating, she replied that with a Latin degree from Oxford there isn’t a call centre in the land that wouldn’t want to have her on the staff.
