Brown plays the generation game
Gordon Brown has urged the US to renew the “special relationship for our generation” in a speech to Congress.
When asked by reporters later what he meant by “our generation”, Mr Brown said, in an apparent reference to terrorists, “People try to put us down, just because we get around.” He added that, “Things they do look awful cold. I hope they die before I get old.”
The Prime Minister was challenged on these remarks, with suggestions that he was inciting revenge from groups such as al-Qaeda. However Mr Brown replied, “I’m not trying to cause a big sensation. I’m just talking about my generation.”
